Why Indra’s Verdance Speaks to Me

In creating Indra’s Verdance, I was drawn to Indra’s duality—his immense power as the king of gods, yet his deeply human traits. While reading Gods and Godmen of India by Khushwant Singh, I encountered a portrayal of Indra that was both controversial and intriguing. Singh highlighted aspects of Indra’s character that were flawed and human, making him relatable and real despite his divine status. This complexity spoke to me on a deeper level, inspiring the blend of elements in this artwork: the lush greens symbolize divine beauty, while the earthy textures and gold details ground it in reality. Indra’s Verdance is a tribute to the connection between the divine and the human—a reminder that even in paradise, there’s beauty in imperfection.
